  1. Taylor Miller says:

I believe Leonardo da Vinci was the most influencial artist of the Renaissance period. His most famous piece, The Mona Lisa, is still popular today. However, I think that a lot of his influence comes from the fact that he had multiple career paths. He painted, sculpted, engineered, dissected, etc over the entire course of his life. I think that he was a highly respected person, and people saw his art as some of the greatest things of their time.

  2. Taylor Miller says:

The idea of the Renaissance man is a man who is perfect. This man would have perfect shape and symmetry. He would be a master of multiple trades. The Renaissance man would bring human glory and beauty to a whole new level. I think that Leonardo da Vinci best represents the Renaissance man. He in all ways was a universal man. He had numerous skills that he was constantly improving. Also, he inspired many people of the Renaissance time.

    • Taylor Schollenberger says:

I agree that da Vinci best represnts the perfect man. I was thinking that he might have created the perfect man based on himself, because he is the exact example of the perfect man.

  3. Taylor Schollenberger says:

I think that Leonardo da Vinci would be the most influential artist of the Renaissance. He created the idea of the perfect man and painted the Mona Lisa which is still famous today. He was more than just a painter he was a engineer, a botanist, and anatomy. He had such a varried lifestyle that he also had a short attention span. He was an influential artist because he portrayed moods into the facial expressions of the people he was painting. He incorporated those facial expressions into the Mona Lisa.

  4. Jennie Lien says:

I believe that Leonardo da Vinci was the most influential artist during the period of the Renaissance. I think this because all of his works are remarkable and are still very famous to this day. His name is one that you could say to just about anyone and they will know exactly who you are talking about which shows how memorable and outstanding this man as. Also, besides being an artist he was also many other things like, a sculptor and an engineer. Everything that da Vinci accomplished during his life will forever be remembered by many.

    • Taylor Miller says:

I strongly agree with Jennie. I too believe Leonardo da Vinci to be the most influencial artist during the Renaissance. I like how she said that he is still famous even today. However, I like her next statement even more. Most people automatically know who you are talking about when you say Leonardo da Vinci, and that is very true.

  5. Rebekah Jones says:

Leonardo da Vinci seems to best fit the idea of a Renaissance man. He was not only a famous painter from the Mona Lisa but also a sculptor, architect, inventor, engineer, and scientist. This makes him well-rounded and deeply knowledgeable in a variety of fields. Through art he linked his knowledge of science, engineering, and inventing. The connections he made and masterpieces he created makes him the ideal Renaissance man.

  6. Dustin Casanova says:

Michaelangelo is without a doubt the most influential Renaissance artist. Da Vinci is not the only Renaissance man who was a sculptor, architect, inventor, and engineer. Michaelangelo is another example of a “perfect” man. He excelled in a variety of arts and crafts, created a great 18 feet sculpture of David, and he created the amazing artwork of the Sistine Chapal. Michaelangelo had a great devosion to harmony, symmetry and proportion. He loved his art and made it to perfection. He was a great inspiration to art, and aside from art he dedicated himself to architecture. He constructed a library and was the foundation for many other artists and architects.

  7. Payton Johnson says:

I feel that Leonardo da Vinci was the most influential artist from the renaissance period because of his vast skill in a variety of different fields.  Many of da Vinci’s works of art are still famous today. Leonardo da Vinci is a recognizable name around the world and his works or art, especially the Mona Lisa.  Not only was he an exceptional painter, he also was a talented sculptor,  architect, engineer, and inventor.

  8. Angie Kelly says:

I believe that Michelangelo was the most influential painter during the Renaissance because he created some of the most famous pieces of artwork and sculptures that are still famous today. He was asked to complete works for four different popes, including the Sistine Chapel which took four years to complete. His paintings in the chapel are original ideas that are considered to be perfect. The pictures that he made later are more complex, showing possible deep personal changes. He begins to use the new style of mannerism, allowing him to express his emotions more freely. All of his works, like his scuplture of David and the painting The Last Judgement express the emotions and devotion that Michelangelo had while creating these masterpieces. He excelled in various arts and crafts, and was the most influential painter of the Renaissance.

    • Moriah Bellino says:

I agree with Angie that Michelangelo was the most influential painter during the Renaissance time. He seems to often be overlooked, and people like Da Vinci get all of the fame for this time period. However, Michelangelo was incredibly talented, and tried many new and unique techniques, creating many beautiful paintings. Also, as Angie mentioned, Michelangelo had his own sculpture of David, which was much different from the rest. His sculpture was made of marble, and presented a more mature, less feminine David. Michelangelo was painter of the Sistine Chapel as well, which was an incredible feat, one many artists never could’ve accomplished.

  9. Angie Kelly says:

Despite the name Renaissance man, I chose a woman. I think that Ellen DeGeneres could be considered as a Renaissance woman because she is a comedian, talk-show host, author, philanthropist, and an actress. On her show Ellen shows that she is a kind and generous person. She donates money to several different charities and helps out families and different people that need help financially. Ellen rewards others that complete good deeds in the form of money, certain supplies they need, and sometimes even a car. She also aides underpriveleged schools financially, or with school supplies for the students and teachers. Her most recent book is a biography and is a #1 New York Time’s bestseller. Finding Nemo is the most famous movie that Ellen was in as the voice of Dory. Ellen DeGeneres is an accomplished woman, having skills in a variety of different areas and meets all of the qualifications to be a Renaissance woman.

  10. Payton Johnson says:

The idea of the renaissance man is the perfect man. He has skills in a variety of different fields and is just all around perfect. I feel like a contemporary renaissance man would be  someone like jay z. He has a thriving music career, a music producer,  he has 14 Grammies, and is a minority owner of the new jersey nets.  He is also married to Beyonce and is a father of one. Jay z has a net worth of over 450 million and  has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. Jay z is defiantly an example of a modern day renaissance man because of his many skills and how well rounded he is.

  11. Ryan Stifnell says:

I find Michelangelo to be the most influential artist in the Renaissance. Like da Vinci , he was skilled in many different areas of expertise. His work symbolized harmony, symmetry, and proportion, sending a message out for how people should live. His eighteen-foot sculpture of David provides a strong example of that. There were four different popes commissioned work by him. Michelangelo painted the frescoes in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, not only his most famous work, but one of the largest, most impressive pieces of art in history. His works became more complex as he grew older, working in a style known as mannerism, which was parallel in contemporary music and literature. It showed the personal side and feelings of the artist, something that Michelangelo made popular. Michelangelo was a huge influence in Renaissance art and also for art today. His work truly shaped the way art was looked at, from the beauty to the deeper meaning of it.

  12. Jennie Lien says:

A Renaissance man is defined as a successful and well rounded person. I believe that Steve Jobs fits this description very well. Even though he did drop out of college, he was a very bright man. He founded and started one of the most successful companies of all time, Apple. With all of the technology that Jobs has created he has completely altered the world’s way of communication. Also, before he founded Apple, he co-founded Pixar Animation Studios and even helped produce movies. The accomplishments of this man have changed the way that we do things.

  13. Ryan Stifnell says:

The idea of the Renaissance man is someone who is influential. Someone who has made a difference in countless lives and in history. I believe that person in contemporary times to be Oprah Winfrey. She has been the host of the most-viewed talk show in history and received multiple awards for it. She’s the richest African-American in history, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and in some cases has been called the most influential woman in the world. She faced a rough childhood, providing an heart-felt story for the countless children who are going through a similar issue. She has brought herself from a low-rating morning show in Chicago to the most popular talk show in the world. She has her own magazine and her own TV channel. She created the Oprah’s Angel Network which was a charity that supported charitable projects and provided grants to countless nonprofit organizations worldwide. She even established a school for girls in South Africa who faced poverty. She’s arguably the most successful African American and woman of all time, who has devoted countless hours and her heart to help others with the success she brought upon herself. Oprah Winfrey is a perfect example of the Renaissance Man.

  14. Dustin Casanova says:

A Renaissance man is a person with many talents or interests, especially in the humanities. Most of times this person is influental and has a strong impact on society. James Franco is a great Rennaisance man. He is an American actor, author, comedian, artist, producer, screenwriter, editor, professor, poet, and musician. He was awarded a Golden Globe Award in 2001.Franco was in a great movie that I know almost evry kid has watched and loved, Spider-Man, the movie earned $114 million during its first weekend in North America and went on to earn $822 million worldwide. He also starred in Pineapple Express a hillarious movie. Franco produced and directed a documentary named Saturday Night documenting a week in the production of an episode of SNL. In 2008, he was named as the new face of Gucci’s men’s fragrance line. Franco reenrolled at UCLA in the fall of 2006 as an English major with a creative writing concentration. Basically Franco is a great man and he is a person with many talents. There is one thing that I really respect about Franco he said, aiding others is “the key to life, the key to happiness” and, “as an actor, you can get wrapped up in yourself and your career…A little secret is one of the greatest ways to break that is to stop thinking about yourself for a second.” He began volunteering at the charity Art of Elysium, which helps children with serious medical conditions. He said the experience helped save his life. He ended up receiving the Spirit of Elysium accolade. He has many proffesions and has not been looked badly uponed. He deserves to be called a Renaissance man.

  15. Courtney Gehret says:

    1. As I read over some comments I saw people saying a renaissance man is “perfect”. I find myself eager to disagree because there is now human being who can accomplish perfection; albeit there are people who have spent their whole lives trying to become omniscient. I believe a Renaissance man is someone who has eclectic interests and a wide knowledge/understanding of many things. These people take what they have and work to broaden their horizons and knowledge. There is one person that immediately pops into my mind when referring to renaissance artists. Leonardo da Vinci was the polymath of his time. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. He had an unquenchable curiosity which meant he jumped head first into everything. In his works he showed the artistic changes of the Italian Renaissance, like chiaroscuro, sfumato, the use of oil paints, perspective, classicism, perspective, and realism. He explores anatomy and science which was shown in his 13,000 pages of notes. After gaining the knowledge and understandings of the world, he spoke out and influenced others. Taking in all he has done, I definitely believe he was the most influential artist, and maybe even person in general, of that time

  16. Courtney Gehret says:

    2. This is a tough question to answer because in my personal opinion there is no one in today’s world that fits the criteria of a Renaissance man. Yes, there are people like Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Jobs, et cetera yet they haven’t even come close to the diverse interests and knowledge that Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and da Vinci achieved. Our world isn’t as focused on discovery and understanding due to the heights of knowledge we have already achieved. So my personal belief is that there is no one person in the past decade that i would consider a Renaissance man or woman.

  17. Moriah Bellino says:

A Renaissance man is someone who is well rounded, skilled and successful in many areas and aspects of life. I believe a modern day example of a Renaissance Man would be Walt Disney. Walt Disney was a film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entertainer, entrepreneur, and the creator of Disney! Not only was Walt Disney successful, he was also a kind, caring and likeable person. Walt Disney’s loved to have fun and draw cartoons as a child, so his goal with Disney World was not to make millions of dollars, but to create a fun and safe place for children and adults alike to let go of their worries and just have fun. He was also a loving father, and husband. At the time of his death, Walt Disney had accomplished more that many people could even dream about doing, and none of it was for his own person gain. His talent in many areas, pure intentions, and likeable personality make Walt Disney the perfect contemporary Renaissance man!

    • Mahlon Mowrer says:

I would have to agree with Moriah that a present day Renaissance man is Walt Disney. He was one of the most creative men to ever walk the earth. Even today his imagination touches all those to walk through his amusement parks. He was avidly involved in the movie industry, a successful business man, but above all a dreamer. Unlike others of his time he brought his dreams to life and that’s why he is undoubtedly one of the most famous renaissance men in modern times.

  18. Avery Jacobs says:

The most influential Renaissance artist was without a doubt Leonardo da Vinci. A true master of many skills, da Vinci was one of the greatest painters of all time, and he also advised princes and kings on military engineering. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. In addition to these qualities, da Vinci shortened his attention span because the varieties of his interests were so great. All of these qualities make Leonardo da Vinci the most influential Renaissance artist because of the variety of his interests, his great skills at a variety of things, and his overall mind put da Vinci at the top of the list against all other artists.

  19. Avery Jacobs says:

My personal opinion of the definition of a Renassaince man is someone who is skilled in many areas, and is very influential to the people and society that evolves around them. I believe that there is no one in contemporary times that fits the name of the Renassaince man. Obviously, there are many people who are skilled in many areas like Oprah Winfrey and Steve Jobs, but they do not have the intellectual abilities and discoveries that someone like Leonardi da Vinci or Ben Franklin. In todays society, life is not based around paintings and discoveries, since we have already discovered and invented many things already. All in all, I believe that no one in recent times should be considered as a Renaissance man.

    • Kathleen Thornock says:

I agree with Avery because in today’s society, we no longer have to think about the things we do since everything is pretty much handed to us on a silver platter. There is no longer any effort put into thinking and many people are happy to stick with thinking one way instead of expanding their knowledge and being open to learn things they weren’t taught to believe. In the Renaissance time period many people wanted to learn new things, visit new places. They wanted to do anything they could get their hands on. Every time they learned something else they still wanted to know more. Today, people are happy to stick with one thing because they are afraid to be shot down. So, no I do not believe there is anyone in contemporary times that could be called a Renaissance Man.

  20. Rebekah Jones says:

Michelangelo was definitely the most influential artist of the Renaissance. Many people will look to Leonardo da Vinci because he was extremely talented, but Michelangelo also practiced many different forms of art including painting, sculpting, architecture, and poetry. The sculpture of David that he created demonstrates the Renaissance devotion to harmony, symmetry, and proportion, to glorifiy the human body. Later in his years his works become complex. This marks the passing of the High Renaissance paintings and the rise of mannerism, a new style where strange and abnormal works were created. Also, Michelangelo has had numerous wellknown pieces such as the Sistine Chapel which originally involved 343 figures and the pieces perfection and originality impresses and influences the artists of today. Overall, Michelangelo’s works reflect a the dedication and genius that imbodies Renaissance art and has led to many great works.

  21. Rebekah Jones says:

The Renaissance man is suppose to be a multidimensional genius who has advanced skill in a variety of fields. They must connect information from different areas. The evolution of society must be a main goal of a Renaissance man. While there are many incredibly talented people today I cannot think of any that could be compared to Leonardo da Vinci or Benjamin Franklin. No one today has the dedication to learning and discovery that these men of the past had. We are simply not a society focused on creations like the world once was. There is no one person who has the deep knowledge of many different skills that may be called a Renaissance man.

  22. John Manthey says:

I would have to say Michelangelo was the most influential of all the Renaissance. My reasoning is quite simple, I have no idea who was really more influential: Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci, but nearly everyone else will choose da Vinci, and why follow the crowd? Don’t worry, I have some actual information to support my claims. Michelangelo was multi-talented as an artist and as a thinker in general. He could paint well enough to be commissioned by Pope Julius II to paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling, he could sculpt well enough to be commissioned to make a sculpture of David at the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, in Florence. Michelangelo is also remembered to this day for his wisdom and skill in multiple disciplines, defining him as a Renaissance man beyond a doubt.

  23. John Manthey says:

A Renaissance man is someone who is skilled in multiple areas and very knowledgeable in general. I would like to make the argument that our society is currently working to turn all of us into Renaissance men/women. Skilled in many areas? workplaces will often ask an employee to be proficient in an area outside of their expertise to cut down on number of employees. In college we are taught in subjects that may or may not be involved in our main degree, but are considered important to learn by our society. Also, college students are often encouraged to minor, meaning to put a lesser amount of focus on a different but related degree, which makes the student more hire-able later one.

  24. David McLarnon says:

I believe the most influential renaissance man is Leonardo Da Vinci, like the others have said. I think he is more influential because the other artists and crafters of his time were just not as wide spread as Da Vinci. He did a million different things and was absolutely amazing at everything he did. A few of the many things he did include Painter, Sculptor, Architect, Scientist, Inventor. Leonardo did so much for his times that no other man even comes close to him. He was not only able to do so many things, but he created new better ways to do things too, he was really just an all around renaissance man especially for his time.

    • Taylor Schollenberger says:

I completly agree with Dave I strongly think that he was the MOST influential renaissance artist beacause of all of his great abliitlys. Not to say that the others weren’t influential at all just not as much because they didn’t do all of that stuff. He wasn’t just an artist of many mediums he also invented many things and tought himself thing that most people couldn’t comprehend like botony.

  25. David McLarnon says:

It’s hard to pick a modern renaissance man now a days. I truly believe though that the most modern renaissance man would have to be Steve Jobs, i do realize he did specialize in mainly technology, but he really did open technology to a new level, he didn’t just stay in phones for Apple industries, he pretty much made an I-everything. Although his specialty was technology, he was very wide spread in the technology. Mr.Jobs is now dead obviously but he still has plans written down for the future to create even more technological and awesome apple products. Of all sorts of electronics not just computers and phones. Mr.Jobs is a great example of a modern renaissance man

  26. Phil Huber says:

In my mind the most influential artist of the Renaissance, is Michelangelo. Although Leonardo Da Vinci was a jack of all trades, (painter, sculptor, architect etc) Michelangelo had a great impact on the Renaissance style of painting. His eighteen-foot statue of David was a perfect example of the Renaissance devotion to harmony, symmetry, and proportion, all contributing the magnificence of the human form. Another famous work of his includes his frescoes in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel. His work in the Sistine Chapel included 343 figures and covered 10,000 square feet; this masterpiece took four years to complete. Later his works became more complex and marked the new style of mannerism. Michelangelo represented the beginning of a new age in the world of Renaissance and marked the end of another. This being precise reason for being the most influential artist of the Renaissance.

  27. Bryn Hunsberger says:

I believe that Leonardo da Vinci is the most influential Renaissance artist. Pieces of da Vinci’s art are still very knows today, such as the last supper and the Mona Lisa. Leonardo da Vinci was basically good at everything he did, such as painting. He mastered the art of capturing the true meaning of the renaissance through the faces of his paintings. Leonardo’s paintings today are sold for millions, and even back in the renaissance they were a hot item to have. Leonardo’s inventions and ideas are also still used today. Leonardo da Vinci was defiantly the most influential Renaissance artist.

  28. Bryn Hunsberger says:

A renaissance man is someone with many talents, or interests. They are generally good at these interest’s they have, and sometimes take on the responsibility of helping others with their daily lives through their studies. An example of a modern-day renaissance “man” would be Madeleine Albright. Madeleine Albright was good at everything she did, and made the lives of everyday people better. Albright was sectary of state, and maintained peace between the United States and other countries. A renaissance “man” can obviously also be a woman, and Madeleine Albright is the perfect example.

  29. Mahlon Mowrer says:

Its hard not to echo somewhat but the most influential Renaissance artist is obviously Leonardo da Vinci. He’s even called the first Renaissance man. Unlike the other artists of his time he was a man of many traits, he was an artist, a scientist, an engineer, and an inventor. He painted the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and over 5,000 sketches in multiple notebooks. He sculpted an equestrian stature, built plans for cities, and as a scientists studied anatomy among other branches of science. As an inventor he invented an early flying machine and a primitive tank both by themselves may have been enough to put his mark on history. All in all Leonardo da Vinci is not only one of the most influential Renaissance artists, but he is one of the most important figures in history.

  30. Phil Huber says:

    2. In my personal opinion a Renaissance man is someone, man or woman, that is skilled in many different trades and influences future peoples. They provide a role model for generations to resemble, they contribute to society and think not only of themselves, and there personal life, but of the whole entire world. In contemporary times there are many figures that have a set of skills that when combined provide a great role model for future generations, but none quite good enough to resemble a Renaissance man/woman. People like Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Lance Armstrong, and Hiliary Clinton all contributed to the world in so many ways. But none of the above mentioned resemble this perfect man/woman described and therefore there is no true answer to this question. People today have turned into learning a certain skill and sticking to it, they do not want to challenge themselves as much as the Renaissance man did.

  31. Jess Kurtz says:

    2. The Renaissance man OR woman, in my opinion, means to have a wide knowledge about many areas of expertise and aspects of life. They are a very well-rounded individual. However, I believe that the type of thinking people did during the Renaissance is nowhere near comparable to today’s greatest minds. Having said that; a prime example of a Renaissance person in our modern world is Steve Jobs. He created and explored so much of technology (Apple; iPod, iPhone, iPad) and changed the way people communicate and work together. He also did various charity works with his fortune. The Renaissance person has a specific area that they have deep knowledge or skill in; and Steve Jobs has this in his Apple legacy. In our modern world, people tend to specialize in a certain area and not expanding their learning to all areas like the Renaissance person did.

  32. Jess Kurtz says:

    1. I would have to say that the greatest artist of the Renaissance was Leonardo da Vinci. He was an artist, architect, engineer, sculptor, scientist, and inventor. Aside from being the ‘Renaissance Man’ and being extremely well rounded, his main focus was art. His famous ‘notebooks’ of sketches of anatomy with over 5,000 sketches, “The Virgin of the Rocks”, “The Last Supper” and “Mona Lisa” were just a few of his everlasting legendary works. In addition to these, he built a famous equestrian statue, made plans for cities, studied science with the most innovative thinkers of the time, and so much more. Although all of the ‘Ninja Turtle’ artists and several others were also amazing, I believe da Vinci is the overall obvious pick for not only the greatest artist, but greatest person and arguably one of the most influential figures in history. Anything he set his mind to; he could do it and do it beautifully.

  33. Parker Thomas says:

In my opinion, I would have to consider Leonardo da Vinci to be the most influential Renaissance artists, mostly due to him being a prime example of a Renaissance man, or person of broad knowledge in many different fields. His most famous painting, the Mona Lisa, is probably the best known piece of Renaissance art, and thus has been copied in different forms and parodied by a large number of people. It conveys inner moods through the complex facial expression of the La Gioconda, which is also exampled in Leonardo’s self-portrait, which contains so much detail of his face, that he even included his somewhat aquiline nose in the portrait. Leonardo also painted the practically most known piece of religious art, The Last Supper, which is found in the Refractory in Milan. What else makes Leonardo probably the most influential artist, besides his well-known pieces of art, is that he exampled the Renaissance definition of a universal person. He advocated scientific experiments, dissected corpses, and was a botanist. Along with these experiments, observations, and ideas of inventions that he developed, he made detailed sketches of what he saw or thought. He also was an advisor of military engineering to Italian princes and King Francis I.

  34. Parker Thomas says:

A Renaissance man is believed to be a person who has a broad knowledge about many things in different fields, and usually has a one skill in which he or she exceeds in. It is the Greek ideal of a
“well-rounded man.” I do not believe that anyone of contemporary times could be considered a Renaissance man, considering the thought that it is a person who is talented in many fields of knowledge. No one at the time, which I know of, is thought to be considered great in several different fields, and instead most just focus in one field. Exampling what I mean by this is that though Bill Gates helped develop what we know as home computers today, he is not known for any distinctions of the arts. This lack of broad knowledge for people in today’s times is probably due to the extent of knowledge in just signal fields that makes it the focus in people’s lives.

  35. Abby Jaeger says:

    1. I believe that Leonardo da Vinci is the most influential artist of the Renaissance like so many others have said. Da Vinci was one of the greatest painters of all time but that was not the only career path he chose. He was also a military engineer, a sculptor, an inventor, an architect, and a scientist. He was a very well rounded man. Many of his paintings are still very well known today such as the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. He was very skilled in conveying inner moods through facial expressions and an example of that skill is in the painting, the Mona Lisa. Da Vinci was a man of many talents and many people looked to him for guidance and ideas when it came to military engineering. Italian princes came to him for military engineering guidance. He portrayed art through many different ways. He sculpted and painted but he also created modern machines such as airplanes and submarines. He created those machines with his extremely inventive mind. He was also the Renaissance ideal of the universal person. Leonardo Da Vinci is the most influential artist of the Renaissance and he is most definitely a true Renaissance man.

  36. Abby Jaeger says:

    2. A Renaissance “man” is said to have very broad knowledge about many things and to link information from different areas to create new knowledge. A Reanissance “man” has very many great talents and is extremely well-rounded in many different areas. I believe that Oprah Winfrey is the Renaissance “man” (or in this case “woman”) of contemporary times because she is extremely well rounded and takes on many new aspects of life. She is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and a philanthropist. A philanthropist is a very kind person who devotes their life to helping others by donating money for those in need or founding charities to support those who have serious medical conditions. Like da Vinci, Oprah has many talents in many different areas. She was known especially for her talk show just like da Vinci was known for his paintings and his sculptures. Oprah fits the definition of a Renaissance “man” because she has so much knowledge that she shares with the whole world via her television show. She informs much of our world about the struggles that many people face such as poverty or illnesses. Many people look to her for guidance just like they looked to da Vinci for military engineering gudiance. Oprah definitely fits the description of the Renaissance “man” or in this case “woman”.

  37. JimHannon says:

Leonardo da Vinci would be the most influential Renaissance artist. He painted the Mon Lisa, which is still very famous today. He also was a man of many career paths including an architect and an inventor. The way he portrayed faces by using intricate detail was a stepping stone or artists to one later on. Da Vinci is a household name, there are not many who do not know who he is. He had to be influential if he is this well known.

  38. JimHannon says:

A Renaissance man is somebody, of either gender, who has a broad intelligence over many topics and puts that intelligence to use to improve and make an impact on society. Oprah Winfrey would be a good example of this. She dedicated her life to helping people on her tv show with a variety of problems. Not only did she help out the guests on her show, but regularly provided for her audience. However, I would have to agree with Phil Huber on the fact that people in modern times tend to specialize in one specific topic, and therefore there is no true Renaissance man, or woman, in most cases.

  39. Kathleen Thornock says:

I would have to say that Leonardo da Vinci is the most influential Renaissance artist. He was an engineer, a sculptor, a painter, an architect, an inventor, and a scientist. Many of his paintings are still popular today, like the Mona Lisa, as well as some of his ideas. He never held back when it came to things he wanted to do and when he did those things, he did them well. Because of all the work he did during the Renaissance he is quite famous now and the artist most often spoken about when famous artists are brought up. So, I do believe the Leonardo da Vinci was the most influential Renaissance artist.

  40. Kyle Hess says:

The most influential man of the renassaince had to be Leonardo Da Vinci. He was a man of many occupation like a scientist and a painter. He is known by most for painting the Mona Lisa, one of the most well known paintings ever painted. He also painted The Last Supper, the most reproduced religious painting of all time. He used innovative techniques in how he layed the painting with detail. He portrayed faces like you would see them in real life. One of his inventions was a flying machine, similar to an airplane, except he drew the model hundreds of years before the Wright brothers took their first flight. I feel he conributed the most during the renassaince, making him the most influential person of his time.

A renassaince man is someone, male or female, that has expertise that spans through every subject, and can link information from certain areas to form new knowledge. They create the stepping stones for future generations, creating new things that will make life easier or more understandable. This is a person that masters’s in many subjects like Leonardo Da Vinci. He was an architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. I think this qualifies him to be the “Renassaince man”. Another great example of a Renassiance amn is Ben Franklin. He created many things like the worlds first fire department, invented many items such as the lightning rod, bifocals, and the Franklin Stove. There is no perfect person that fits the exact description of the Renassaince man.

A renaissance man is one who is incredibly well rounded. He has a vast pool of knowledge and skill sets that he can draw from. Skills and knowledge may include such things as philosophy, mathematics, writing, various languages and cultures (particularly Greek and Roman), invention, engineering, medicine, nature, the human body, and the human mind.

I believe that Leonardo da Vinci was the most influential renaissance artist. He painted the Mona Lisa which is still undeniably famous today, more than 400 years later. He advised Italian princes as well as a French King on military engineering which likely effected things as important as the outcome of wars, it can easily be assumed that without his advising times could be quite different than they are now as wars have drastic influence on society as a whole. He also has most certainly influenced modern healthcare as it is today due to his avocation of scientific experimentation which helped many better learn anatomy.
